ECAI-98 Workshop
Monitoring and control of real-time intelligent systems
To be held at the
13th biennial European Conference on Artificial Intelligence
August 24, 1998
Brighton Centre, Brighton, UK
This workshop is concerned with the design of single- and multi-agent
systems that can operate robustly in dynamic environments
characterized by rapid change and high level of uncertainty. In such
environments, computing the optimal answer is infeasible or
economically undesirable.
To address this chalenge, researchers have developed a variety of
resource-bounded reasoning techniques that offer a trade-off between
solution quality and computational resources such as time or memory.
The workshop will present an opportunity for researchers to share
recently developed techniques for exploiting computational tradeoffs
by static or dynamic monitoring of resource-bounded reasoning and
applications in such areas as heuristic search, planning, data
transmission, and information gathering. We are particularly
interested in applications related to information services over the
internet.
The workshop will cover empirical results, case studies, and
evaluation of systems, prototypes or algorithms. Topics of interest:
- Time- and space-bounded problem-solving algorithms.
- Modeling dynamic environments and assessing time pressure.
- Agent architectures for real-time deliberation and action.
- Handling uncertainty and rapid change.
- Scheduling resource-bounded reasoning components.
- Meta-reasoning and control of computation.
- Reasource-bounded reasoning in multi-agent systems.
- Negotiation approaches to computational resource allocation.
- Utility-based and multi-criteria performance evaluation.
The workshop will include an invited talk, paper presentations, and
open discussion. Demonstrations of resource-bounded techniques and
systems may also be included.
Prospective participants should submit
a research paper (up to 8 pages), a position paper (up to 4 pages)
or a research summary (1-2 pages) describing their interests in
the topics listed above. Demonstration proposals should specify
the hardware and software requirements for the demonstration.
Papers should be submitted electronically to:
Mouaddib@cril.univ-artois.fr.
- Submission deadline: March 30, 1998
- Notification date: April 27, 1998
- Camera-ready: May 30, 1998
